Celebrating:Mother's Day on,09 th May 2010 ( UK 14th March ) :
Mother's Day is celebrated to honour all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May. Mother Day came into being due to the efforts made by Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for having a dedicated 'Mother's Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mothers Day with joy and devotion.
It is also believed that Mother's day owes its roots to Ancient Greece and the festival to Cybele, a deification of Mother Earth and the Great Mother of Greek gods. This festival coincided with the Vernal (Spring) Equinox from 15 March to 18 March, which gives the timeframe for Mothers Day today.
In the UK and Ireland Mother's day falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter Sunday. Its origins are believed to have come from the 16th Century Christian ritual of making an annual visit to the church of your mother, thereby reuniting mothers with their children on this day.
Young men and women would be released from their work for this day allowing them visit their families. Resulting in the traditions of celebrating and giving thanks to mothers nowadays.
